Ringing in 2012

Happy New Year everyone!

NewYear2
Holiday lights in Aix-en-Provence

Did you have an exciting night of revelry on New Year's Eve or were you like someone in our house who had to be prodded awake at 10pm to enjoy a bottle of fizz? (And it wasn't me.)

NewYear1

Are you making resolutions? I'm terrible at them and prefer to just make a nice long 'to do' list and leave it at that.

2012 will be our third and final year in France and we're determined to make the most of it, so I guess that is our family resolution. There will be a fair bit of travel photography inbound, hope you don't mind.

NewYear3

Not to say that there won't be crafty stuff either. In fact, I have already cut into a pile of fabric in anticipation of making a Chasing Chevrons quilt.

NewYear6

I've also started a new embroidery - it is a gift so can't really show much here:

NewYear5

I'm really enjoying all this stitching, so it was a lovely case of happenstance when I won a giveaway on Krista's blog, Poppyprint. This is what I won:

NewYear4

There are stitches in here I never even knew existed. Amazing and inspiring, thanks Krista!

Also inspiring was a swap parcel I received from the lovely Blandina. I showed you this photo a while ago:

SquareStitch1

Well, this is what I got in return - a beautiful embroidery inspired by Blandina's visit to Provence.

NewYear7

Everything about this makes me deliriously happy - the colours, the shapes, the subject matter.

From the lavender

NewYear8

To the olive trees

NewYear9

To the rocky mountains and blue, blue sky.

NewYear10

Thank you so much Blandina!

In the lead up to Christmas I forgot to photograph my piece before I sent it off, so you'll have to pop over to Blandina's to check it out.

All the best from our family to yours!

Wishing you all much love, laughter, health and happiness in 2012.

Happy New Year Kirsty.
I had a great night, stayed at home but we were able to see the fireworks from the balcony, and the apartment downstairs had a massive party, including a dj who played awesome music.. So fireworks, music, a couple of drinks, all in the comfort of my own home and without having to get dressed up. Now that's what I call a great NYE.
Love the embroidery you received, it's beautiful and perfectly depicts the wonderful landscape of Provence. I'm off to have a look at what you sent to Blandina.

Hi Kirsty,
We actually stayed up past 12 this year, the kids even stayed up too. We watched phython vs gatoroid on the telly, it starred Tiffany and Debbie Gibson would you believe..haha

Kade was determined to see his birthday in (1st Jan), he turned 10 this year!

No resolutions for us, just hoping for a great year ahead.

Enjoy your final year in France and all the amazing experiences that go with it, I am sure 2012 will be a great one. Heres cheers!

Happy new year, K! There wasn't a whole lot of revelry going on at midnight in this house...Anthony and I both nodded off before midnight. How things change when you have kids!

I can't believe it is your final year abroad...the time has flown for me, so I can only imagine how quickly it is going for you. I'm sure 2012 will be your best year yet! And bring on the travel photos...I enjoy living vicariously through you ;-)

Blandina's embroidery is beautiful! It reminds me of a Van Gogh painting! I must see if I can get myself a copy of that book! And keep those photos coming!

Happy New Year, Kirsty and all the best for you and your family! :-) We had a nice evening at the place of friends of ours. I'd been working a nine hour day on Saturday, but I made it to about half past two without nodding off ... ;-) I'm the same with resolutions, they only make me cranky. A list of nice plans is so much more positive, I think. :-)

I love the sneak peeks of your projects, and that book really looks great! How cool and fitting that you won it! And your swap loot is amazing. The style reminds me a bit of Van Gogh's swirly brush strokes.

I'm looking forward to all your posts this year!

I didn't know you would be there for only one more year! What are your plans for afterwards?

LOVE the embroidery.

Happy New Year to you and yours! (Our countdown was at 10pm as well. My younger son ended up begging me to brush his teeth so that he could go to bed! LOL)

Happy New Year to you too, Kirsty. Lovely festive piccies. Look forward to 2012's travel journal. We are back in the land of winter now. Had an awesome time in your homeland. Baked my lily white ass as much as I could. (Well around my bikini anyways. Figure I'm past the age of going au naturale.) Anyhoo...

Many thanks for the compliments, I enjoy them so much! The pictures are bautifully taken and are very flattering.
Van Gogh: yes, I know, I wanted to suggest his painting and enhanced the rounds and the flowing of lines.
I am curious about your new embroidery project, Kirsty!

Oh Kirsty, don't you love being a long time crafter or stitcher & discovering new stitches to try out??!! My middle girls did Christmas embroidery at school & they did 'fly' stitch!! New to me!!
