The kids get to put on costumes and enjoy a sugary, carbonated goûter (afternoon tea).
The younger maternelle students (aged 3-5) don't leave the school grounds; parents crowd into the schoolyard to watch their small parade and songs.
French mummy shoes seen at my daughter's school.
The primaire kids parade through the streets before arriving at the village square.
There was music and bags of confetti
and bright ladies on stilts.
The confetti war is still my favourite - 300 kids attacking each other and their teachers - amazing.
A little confusing if you're only 2 years old, though.
Other goings-on around the craft room:
Long strips to finish off the backing for the Flocking Chevrons quilt.
And playing around with the filigree beads and some floss.
Hope the week is being kind to you. A bientot!

Love the blossoms! And that lady in blue..that's some costume! Looks like Spring has sprung!
Wow that looks like fun! I really wish we had something like that here. I never see shoes like that at my kids' school. Ever. Only rubber boots, crocs, Birkenstocks and running shoes. I live in a very blue collar small town.......
Aww, looks like so much fun!!
Looks like a beautiful day! I can't imagine how much fun throwing all that confetti must be...not to mention how long it must linger in the grass, ground and clothes!
Looks like so much fun! So, what shoes did you wear to Carnaval??!!
the shoes. now you know what i'll be wearing at our carnaval celebration tomorrow!
a xo
That's some serious footwear! That lady doesn't need stilts ... ;-)
It looks like such a great and fun day! It really must be something to witness, that confetti fight! Though probably a bit frightening if you're so small you only see people's knees ...
That quilt will be so beautiful, I love the colours and patterns!
Oh my gosh, what a fun day! And the French definitely know how to wear shoes. I love those :)
Visiting from our class last night! Are you planning on doing any other Alt classes? If so, I hope to see you there!
xoxo,
Joelle
What a fun thing to do - what a stylish mummy in her high heels at the gate!

Oh, I just found your blog and I am so glad I did! My husband and I spend our summers near Uzes in the Gard, and at this time of year I get crazy with wanting to get there. Seeing your photos gives me a little shot of what I am missing so much.
I'm also a crafty person, and I love your quilts. (I don't quilt, but my mom and sister do...so I have some beauties from them!) Thanks for such a pretty, and timely blog!
Oh and those shoes! Gotta love the woman that sports those!
I have the same heels as that French mommy on the right!! I'm so excited that I'll fit right into the French mommy club one day! x
I think Spring is my favourite season here so I don't blame you Rebecca. Thanks for dropping by!
Where's the pic of your shoes? That reminds me of when BP was in prep, and some of the other mothers thought it was an opportunity to see who could outdress the others in their finest designer wear at 8am in the morning!
The costume looks fabulous, and the carnaval sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate Spring.
the snake skin shoes-I love :)
I'm afraid I find those babies just the tiniest bit creepy!!! But that merry-go-round is just fab. It reminds me a little of one that we saw in Brussels Christmas market: it was more "put together" than yours, but still had the same steam-punk strangeness about it. I love le Pont du Gard - your photos are lovely.
The kids confetti war would have been great fun...
