Once I had a secret love...

Just got back from four days at the French Riviera where the sun shone and it was a lovely 20 degrees (70℉) every day. Yep, it was the pits I tell you.

While I fix up the photos, I wanted to tell you about two fab things we got to do while my folks were here last month.

First: Taking advantage of free babysitting, I dragged the mister to see George Michael when he was playing in Marseille.

George7

When I was 14 I had the biggest crush on George. Many a hot, hormonal tear was shed on my pillow, my Walkman clutched to my aching, undeveloped chest. I knew, absolutely knew, we would fall in deep, irrevocable, stubbly love if only we could just meet.

Random tangent (or dare I say red herring): I named my first pet fish George. This is a stock photo as my George suffered an early, tragic and senseless death from shock when I accidentally knocked an ABBA cassette into his bowl.

But back to the story. Yes, I can hear you all saying that George is 11 years older than me, gay and hates photography.  I'm not interested in problems, people, only solutions.

George8

It was a fantastic concert. Dodgy personal goings-on aside, George's voice is still magnificent and he puts on a great show. My only wish would've been for a few more dance tunes, but it looks like his next album should give me what I want:

George9
I foresee much dancing around my living room in 2012.

Second: A great meal at Le Pigonnet restaurant (music warning if you're reading at work) in Aix-en-Provence. The restaurant is set in the beautiful formal gardens of the hotel.

George1

The food was fantastic, as you'd expect.

George6
Appetisers brought out with our apéritif. Yummo.

Avert your eyes feminists - check out the menu the ladies were given (no prices):

George4

Versus the version given to the guys:

George5

Quaint, huh? In a Betty Draper kind of way.

The wine, the meal, the ambiance - the whole thing was wonderful.

George3
George2

Le Pigonnet is a lovely restaurant if you're looking for something a little more formal and flash - we've only eaten here twice, but it gets our recommendation.

That's all I've got for now - will have more on our recent travels soon. Hope you're all having a great week. If not perhaps this George video will cheer you up.

Points of interest:
1. Wicked facial hair.
2. Two innocent cans of hairspray gave their lives to create that fringe. It just. doesn't. move.
3. George clones. Surely they wouldn't miss just one?

Have a dance around your living room for me!

Oh my! Another George Michael fan in France!! snaaaap! {I actually keep that little factoid mostly to myself...but since you said it first... ;}

The Pigonnet looks lovely - and delish! Note to self: get thee to Pigonnet.

And may I say...that vid - what fun to wiggle around in my chair to the tunes...George, Mary J. and Stevie...a trifecta in tune-ville.

Finally, something we don't have in common. It was starting to get a little too weird :D.

But that Mary J remembered me of The young and The restless :D.

Is that a Kir Royale I spy? Yum! What a wonderful meal you had! (Sorry- I can give or take George unless his surname is Clooney!)

Back when I was 14, I was in love with John Denver. My chances with him were oh so slightly more than your chances with George, but still, it didn't work out :)

I used to think he was gorgeous too, back in the Wham days! Oh dear. He does have the most amazing voice. Glad you had a good time.

I like to start the day reading your latest post,
even more today because I switched off the alarm and fell back to sleep, then we had to do everything in great hurry (the worst way to start a day).
Kirsty, your post was the antidote to a bad start and I dreamed and smiled and DANCED!

That's so cool that you got to see your teen idol! :-) I've never been as big a George Michael fan as you, but I really like some of his songs and also he really seems to have a sense of humour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcHldSZX99g

That restaurant looks and sounds great! That menu thing seems a bit outdated, but I guess who cares in those surroundings with food that nice?

Oh yes, George is definitely eye candy...whether he likes men or not is beside the point, he is veeeeery easy on the eye ;-) And that voice...LOVE!!!

And I'm only a tad jealous that you got to eat out with hubby KID-FREE at such an amazing restaurant...ok, well maybe more than a tad...

Hello I just discovered your blog and love it! I'm French & had to some much pleasure both looooooooking at George (yes, another huge fan indeed whether he's gay or not, nevermind) and hearing him. Such an AMAZING voice ever !!!! Can't wait to listen his brand new album in early 2012....

well at least you had a george in your life, if only for a short time. fancy that, abba knocking him off his perch.
lovely little break you guys had

It's the wrong George for me these days, but yes back then I may have had a smouldering thing for your George. Who knew Abba could kill fish!
Sounds like a fabulous time and I'm growing more and more jealous by the minute!

Wow, seems divine! Glad you were able to enjoy such a special trip.

Oh, the tragic irony of George meeting his demise at the hand of the decidedly straight ABBA quartet. Hilarious post.
