Potty Training Sucks

We're in the throes of it now and it's not going so well. I've had some traumatic experiences today.

We're doing this a little earlier than I'd like to because he has to be trained if he wants to go to school in September (and he really wants to go to school). He's got just under 4 weeks to get himself sorted.

Some boxers for the mister. Nothing to do with potty training an almost 3 yr old.

If you want to see what Aidan, Sara Louise and I got up to the other weekend, you can read Sara's post here. All I'll say is there was a naked man in my kitchen.

I found this critter up in our mulberry tree:

He has a long tail. Is it a rat? Please tell me it's not a rat.

I won a little giveaway over at Krista's blog Poppyprint and some Liberty scraps are winging their way over the ocean to me. Once I receive them I will whip up a tutorial to contribute to the Liberty Scrap Challenge. Thanks Krista!

I've made a few new pages for the blog, attempting to make it more useful - you'll see them up along the top there. There are single pages that collate all my travel, craft and quilting posts so you (and I!) don't have to sift through the archives to find them. There is also a Resources page that has links to anything I have found really helpful in my travel and sewing adventures.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We're set for another warm one down here in Provence.

Off to tackle the potty training again - more vodka required. (For me, not him. Although...)

Potty training is no fun! Vodka is definitely a must. Love your Liberty scraps though!

My sympathy for the potty training! It wasn't easy for me either. All I can tell you is my boys who used pullups were finally trained by 3 1/2. The boy who used the bare bottom approach was trained by age 3 (and it only took a week for him).

I hope that is not a rat! But what else could it be? It's not a possum, and squirrels have fur on their tails.

I think it's a rat. Sorry!
And yeah, I'm still waiting on those naked kitchen photos.
Listen, even when they're potty trained, they still miss the toilet. It never ends!

Amandine is 2years younger than Emilie. Amandine was a good girl during the weeks her sister was at school. No potty accident. During school break, that was quite another story. I thought she would never be ready to go to school. i was wrong. No potty training accident from the moment she started school.

LOL! The joys of potty training. We had wooden floors at the time, which I was very thankful for. Didn't help when we were at a friend's house, or at a cafe, or in the car though! You do have to put up with a lot of wee... but it's so brilliant when they get it and you don't have to cart nappies around with you everywhere :-)

My three year old twin girls are just now potty trained. Now that I have said that, one of them is sure to have a relapse. Hopefully, it will not be too difficult. That is not a rat, it is a rodent of enormous size.

Good luck wit the potty training! Been too long for me to be able to offer any advice! Looking forward to seeing your Liberty creation- its sure to be another stunner!

I think you should both have the voddie! Think that's maybe a vole?

Definitely a rat. Great picture though!!

I'm afraid it's a rat, dear. Sorry! But if it's any consolation, he's not such a bad-looking rat. More Disneyfied and cute than most. :)

You have all my sympathy for your potty-training adventures. I thought I would be washing sheets every day for the rest of my life when we were working on it with our son. Hang in there!

It's a rat! But isn't he cute and such delicate fingers :-) Lovely photographs.

That's a rat. No doubt. He's awfully cute, ours here are scarier--and nocturnal.

Bon courage with the potty training. S refused to do #2 on the potty until we sat her backwards. Just a thought...
Surely that's not a rat. Come on, people! It was out in the daytime, right?
And I love your new page tabs. Great idea.
a xo

Hubby thought it might be a dormouse, but looks like the consensus is rat. Although, if it is a rat it's a darn cute one. Good luck with the potty training - maybe his super enthusiasm for school and being in a different environment will naturally lend itself to dry/clean pants. Good luck, Miss K! Also, the tabs rock, yes, they do.

Potty training was such an ordeal for us that when a poo finally landed in the toilet we took a photo of it. It was a moment of triumph! Good luck. PS. cute rat!

Don´t worry, this little one is definitely NOT a rat. Rats have more pointed faces, different eyes, different noses and have you seen it´s tail? Rats have naked tails. Your little visitor looks more like a fat dormouse (Glis glis) to me or another member of the family gliridae. Actually I think it´s very cute! ;-)

I thought his face was too chubby and cute to be a rat's. I wish I'd gotten a better shot of his tail to confirm it. I choose to believe he's either a vole or a dormouse, I will sleep better that way!

I thought that putting my child in cloth nappies was going to mean she was going to be clean sooner! well it has not worked for me! I have tried to get her to wee in the toilet, but in vain! she does #2, so at least I don't have dirty nappies to deal with any more! And for now, I give up! I am sure by the time she will be 18 she will be out of nappies!! So good luck to you!!!

We're having the exact opposite problem - he's got the wee sorted out (mostly) but he is holding on to those poos like they're gold. I'm sure there's a nugget joke there somewhere.

I wish you the best with the potty training! My son had the hardest time with #2. It was painful for him so he did not want to go at all! After some adjustments to his diet (less dairy & more veggies) the situation improved drastically! My daughter had no troubles.

That looks like some sort of mouse to me too, unless you just have cuter rats than we do here in the States.

I can't offer any advice re potty training, it's been way too long since I had to go through that. Good luck.
I'm hoping it's a mouse too, it looks way too cute for a rat, unless it's Ratatouille come to help you in the kitchen, bwah ha ha.

It's definitely a rat, the little grey guys are quite common in Sydney. Don't touch them and they won't hurt you!

It's a rat and he'll eat all your fruit off the trees and all your vegetable garden. Pesky critters

i have no idea how or why, but my 4 toilet trained themselves & used the real toilet, not a potty. Gosh it made life easy for me, as they were all well & truly toilet trained before the next baby arrived (all have 2 year 4 month gaps) still no idea how it happened. They are fascinated with plumbing though, i'm sure they just loved hanging out in the bathroom. Also credit the DHA house in Sydney, town house, had a toilet under the stairs, so they were constantly running past it, easy. Of course living in Darwin, not a lot to pull down if they leave it too late to go quickly. My son was practically naked the whole time.
No, is that a rat, it's cute, i LOATHE rats & mice & vernon. Love Posie
