Show and Tell: Serendipity Quilt

Another finish! What a great way to go into the weekend.

serendipity12

The quilt pattern is Serendipity, designed by Jennifer of That Girl...That Quilt.

serendipity4

If you would like to make one of your own you can buy the pattern from her shop.

serendipity2

I wasn't sure how this one would turn out as I had trouble sourcing fabric with the exact colour characteristics I'd pictured in my head. These were the closest I could find. Even though it's not exactly as I'd imagined it, I'm still really happy with the finished result.

serendipity3

For the quilting I went with outlining each of the hexagon blocks and then decided to run a diagonal along the length of each shape.

serendipity6

On the back I put together a disappearing nine-patch piece with some of the left over fabrics.

serendipity7

How cool is the disappearing nine-patch? It looks like you've done heaps of work when you really haven't. I see more of these in my future.

serendipity8

After I had pieced the whole top my daughter informed me she didn't really like the bees. As you can see, I took her advice in mind. (I love the bees.)

serendipity5

Hand sewing the binding went really quick this time. I usually use a fairly fine needle when I do my bindings, but this time I accidentally picked up a much thicker needle. By the time I noticed I was ensconced on the couch, quilt on lap, and couldn't be bothered to go back to the sewing room to change it.

serendipity10

Just as well because that needle just charged right through it.

'You see,' said the mister with a lascivious grin, 'bigger is better.' Indeed, dear.

serendipity11

It's nice that all the kids have their own quilts now. Just the bump to sew for now.

It's Friday again! No video, just a nice photo of Bradley Cooper because:

a. Eva loves him
b. Sara Louise is married to him (I can see a conflict looming here).

I have these abs: your argument is invalid. (Source: Douglas Curran)

And this one is for Marg, who loves her some George Clooney and I'm tipping has about 5 Nespresso machines secreted around her house.

I was standing around, camera in hand, when this piece starting showing on our television. George recently made the news when he told Newsweek he couldn't run for president (of the US) as he had 'f--ked too many chicks and did too many drugs, and that’s the truth.'

The honesty's refreshing even if the language is very un-Clooneylike. This is what France thought of his statement:

serendipity14
Hot rabbit? He's smokin'.

Phew. I need a cigarette*.

serendipity9

Have a great weekend everyone!

* Figuratively, figuratively. Keep your pants on.

Stunning! I'm actually talking about the quilt, not the topless man or the hot bunny! Yes, that's right, I've never heard of the non-George Clunny bloke before! I'm loving the colour scheme of the quilt.

Beautiful quilt, but really, the image that will stick with me today will be Bradley Cooper. I just want to pet his belly. (Okay, that's not all, but posting anything more would be creepy.)

Kirsty, you made my weekend! Thank you!! I have to work both days, but it's not as bad knowing somewhere in the world are B.C. and his abs! :-D ;-)

P.S.: Love the quilt! AND the bees! :-)

Thank you Kirsty what a fabulous way to start the day with lots and lots of eye candy. Be still my beating heart! A hot rabbit (he's looking a little old there, I might have to let him go and move on to Brad), some half naked yumminess and a gorgeous quilt. The fabrics you have chosen are beautiful and I love the bees. Very French! well Napoleon at least!
Love the back too those disappearing nine patches are so easy and can look great, yours look awesome. I like the strips down each side too to frame it.

That quilt is SO AMAZING! I think all of your fabric choices are perfect. I like the bees, so if they really bother your daughter, send it my way. :)

Lord have mercy, I'm experiencing sensory overload, between the simply amazing quilting work you've done and the simply amazing men. Leave it to Clooney (and the French) to redefine rabbits. I won't be looking at our own little pet in quite the same way...(Abracadabra--transform into George!)

absolute perfection and the quilt is pretty darn good too

Wow... i LOVE this version of the serendipity quilt. It looks like the yellow is fading into pink, like a sunrise :)

That quilt is seriously gorgeous, I love anything with colour graduation. What is the fabric used on either side of the piecing at the back - also second from the top left in the last photo? I have a sneaking suspicion it could make my life complete :)

Sara, that fabric is from Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet line - called Paper Snowflake in Banana. You can find it on etsy.
