Paris concluded.

Only a few more photos from our last day in Paris.

New Year's Eve day we went to the Cité des Science et de l'Industrie in the 19e arrondissement. They have all sorts of science-y displays, great for those who have kids.

We managed to get into one of the last Omnimax cinema showings for the day, inside La Géode.

La Géode is a huge sphere with a diameter of 36 metres - you sit on the inside and look up (and around and across) at the huge semi-circular screen.

ParisC2

Reminds me of that sci-fi/horror movie Sphere with Sharon Stone (who mercifully kept her legs together in this one). Kinda spooky.

The Cité des Science et de l'Industrie is located in the Parc de la Villette, which we walked through to get back to the metro.

We metroed back to Place de la Concorde to ride La Grande Roue.

By this stage (nearly 8pm) the baby was having a melt down again and it was great fun to watch the faces of those standing in line in front and behind us. (Each 'carousel' on the ferris wheel held 6 people and they were freaking out that they might be stuck in one with us. I was pretty certain they would put us in one alone, which they did.)

We had lovely views over the Champs Elysées.

ParisC5

And the obelisk in Place de la Concorde.

ParisC6
The Luxor Obelisk - 3,300 years old, gifted to Paris by Egypt (duh) in 1833, installed in the Place de la Concorde (on the very spot where the guillotine was located during the Revolution) in 1836.

ParisC7

And then, due to good luck rather than any planning on our part, we happened to be up top when it struck 8pm, and the Eiffel Tower started sparkling in the background.

ParisC8

It was pretty fab. The baby even stopped crying for that one.

New Year's Eve was a quiet take-away meal in the hotel, and later a bottle of wine and tiramisu for the grown ups.

The next morning we were back on the TGV (super-fast train) to head back to Provence.

ParisC9

Thankfully, the baby slept on the mister's chest for half the trip. Phew.
